Concept

Concept

The project's main goal is to develop an app specifically for BUAS Library that enhances user experience by improving the website’s organization and user flow. This app aims to make library services more accessible, intuitive, and user-friendly for students. Recognizing that the current setup of the library website overwhelms students and that many are unaware of available resources, the concept centers on creating a streamlined platform where all services can be found in a logical and user-focused arrangement.

RESEARCH

The team applied a multi-method research approach, which included interviews, focus groups, and the "What? How? Why?" method, to gain insights into student and librarian experiences. Interviews with students from various years provided firsthand feedback on the website’s usability, revealing that many students find it complicated and challenging to navigate. Conversations with librarians offered contrasting perspectives, as they believed the website was simple. This research phase highlighted a significant gap in expectations and identified the specific needs for a more accessible, student-oriented design

Design

Design

The design phase emphasized clarity and user-centric functionality. The team developed a flowchart to logically map out the library’s services and organized them within a more intuitive interface. Key elements included prominent buttons, a streamlined navigation structure, and consistent layouts to maintain visual hierarchy and simplicity. The first iteration used paper prototypes to explore basic UI elements, while subsequent iterations enhanced the app’s structure, ensuring that each screen felt cohesive and easy to navigate

Development

Development

The development process involved iterative testing, beginning with low-fidelity prototypes and progressing to medium-fidelity models based on user feedback. Usability tests revealed areas for improvement, such as enhancing the visibility of specific features like Metasearch and reorganizing key functions. Each testing phase incorporated changes that aligned with user needs, ultimately producing a refined, intuitive product that aligns with students’ expectations. The team’s approach to development balanced functionality and aesthetics, resulting in a tool that simplifies students’ access to library resources while providing a seamless experience
